Artropolis Soirée
Communion & Continuum
We’re honored to partner with @artropolis.world@tbuzz.gram for Communion & Continuum at @maisonbodega.
Artropolis.World is a cultural symposium that centers the Twin Cities as a backdrop for visual art installations, film screenings, soirees, workshops, and sonic curation. They focus on city-making through imagination—celebrating diverse practices while cultivating radical creation, global connectivity, and shared futures.
Taoheed Bayo is a movement director, nomad, and director hailing from Lagos, Nigeria. In his artistic pursuits, Taoheed's focus lies in illuminating Black stories and is the recipient of the @visualartsfund @midwayart grant in support of this year’s @artropolis.world programmes.
A FEW DETAILS FROM THE EVENING
Visual Arts Fund
-
The Visual Arts Fund is a grant program established in 2016 by Midway Contemporary Art with generous support from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. Minneapolis–Saint Paul is one of thirty-nine cities and regions included in Warhol’s Regional Regranting Program, which is aimed at promoting vibrant artistic activity in cities across the United States and Puerto Rico. Through this grant, Taoheed is creating programming for the community that is focused on visual arts and connection.
A FEW DETAILS FROM DINNER
The evening included dinner by hospitalier Mo Kotb of Dervish Mazza, with projection art by Hollie Lleglett, featuring the work of artists in both the Minneapolis and international community, like riiyo, music by Kwey and textiles by Vernon Vanderwood.
Cheers to our friends at @we.are.new.france and @drywitdrink for their tasteful contributions.
about Taoheed:
Taoheed Bayo is a movement director, nomad, and director hailing from Lagos, Nigeria and currently residing in the United States. As an immigrant, he has come to recognize the prevailing bystander's perspective often applied to the tales of his community and is determined to transform this narrative by allowing immigrants to tell their own stories. In his artistic pursuits, Taoheed's focus lies in illuminating Black stories, reflecting an extension of his very being. Through his art, he discovers a profound sense of liberation and an opportunity to explore the world around him. It also serves as an expression of his commitment to humanity, embracing novel ideas and concepts while celebrating the universal essence of freedom.

about MO:
Our hospitalier, Mo Kotb, was born in Cairo and grew up in a loving household where his mother’s cooking, and the surrounding Egyptian culture, etched his worldview. Mo presents a Smörgåsbord of Middle eastern/Mediterranean specialties, many being vegetarian and vegan, from the finest locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. He has a weakness for Lebanese pomegranate molasses and anise liquor, dried hibiscus flowers from Egypt, and French feta cheese. A meal at Mo's typically begins with an Arak aperitif, whetting the appetite for an eclectic spread of Mazza* deftly paired with wine and cocktails.
